Hi! Thanks so much for visiting my site! My name is Heidi and I created #ThePlantBasedMama to share my passion for motherhood, fitness, and living a plant-based lifestyle. My wellness journey began over 12 years ago when I started working at the front desk of a local gym and fell in love with group exercise classes. I ended up getting certified in kickboxing and cycling and started teaching a couple of classes a week at the gym. I was in college at the time and ended up changing my major from Early Childhood Education to Nutrition and Health Promotion because I knew I wanted to make a career out of my passion for fitness and health. The beauty of my job teaching fitness is that it’s not all about getting a “hot body”. Everyone’s wellness journey and reasons behind it are different, and as an instructor I am honored to play a small part in helping people improve themselves.
Around the time I changed my major, I started to really look at other aspects of my life that could be improved and my diet was one of them. I became a vegetarian for a bit, but I felt like somewhat of a hypocrite for not eating meat but still eating other animal products like dairy and eggs. If I really cared about the well-being of animals and our environment, then I knew that I had to fully invest in living a completely plant-based diet. Fast forward to over a decade later, I truly feel as if my plant-based lifestyle has kept me in the best shape of my life- both physically and mentally.
Health and fitness are certainly my passions in life, but my family is my absolute number one. I recently became a mother and it is the most important and fulfilling job that I will ever have. My son teaches me everyday about love, patience, and living in the moment. Though he will be old enough to make his own life decisions one day, my husband and I will do our absolute best to raise him to be a compassionate human who respects others, the animals, and our planet.
I wish you all the best on your own personal journey and I sincerely hope that you always make yourself a priority in your life.
